Hallelujah!

It seems like Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' is going to make the British Christmas charts as number one and even number two.

As it always reminds me of that great German film The Edukators (in German Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei) here is Cohen singing it himself:

And here's a link to Jeff Buckley's version which was actually used in the film (and let's face it, Cohen can't actually sing very well!).

  1. It really is a beautiful song. But something tells me you haven't heard the most beautiful rendition just yet. k.d. lang's version

  2. Oh, and here is the version that got the Christmas Number One in the UK. Alexandra Burke. It looks like she was on the UK "Idol" show. I think she did ok... but without the soul of Lang.

  3. No, I hadn't heard KD Lang's version. Such a bluesy, powerful, soulful voice, I am loving it; thanks Snooker. To be honest, I didn't even know who Jeff Buckley was until he got a name-check in The Edukators and later I realised it was him singing the Cohen soundtrack. As to Burke's version, well she has stage presence and good delivery but the SOUL isn't behind it. Now, if ever Billie Holiday had ever sung it ...
