Tyger! Tyger! Burning Bright! - With Cassie!

My favourite big cat is beyond doubt the tiger. The size, the vibrant colours, the coiled up feline ferociousness of them, about to spring at any moment. Here are some photos of tigers at the Tierpark Berlin, in Friedrichsfelde.

Yes, yes it is sad that they are not living their natural life in the wild, but then how many humans are pent up in unnatural environments made to do things their instincts rage against? Even in an artificial environment thousands of kilometres from their homeland, tigers still seem so authentic to their nature, so ... tygirish!

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, and what art.
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

- William Blake, 1794

My favourite small cat though, is of course Cassie!

Cassie Again!

  1. Great to read the famous Blake poem on your Blog. If you are interested in Blake, there is an exhibition planned foe the National Gallery in Melbourne next year: By the way we enjoyed the Meißen photographd, even senza captions.

I would be delighted if you wish to leave a comment!
