Sparsame Anna: Thrifty Anna of Jüterbog

Mounted high up on the wall of the Sparkasse bank near Jüterbog's Rathaus is a limestone sculpture known to the locals as 'Sparsame Anna', or thrifty Anna. It shows Anna in the typical local Flämingtracht (traditional Flemish costume) of a Jüterbog woman of 1910. It was placed there in 1914 on the completion of the building of the Sparkasse as a marketing/promotional ploy by the savings bank.

I wonder if there is a mixed message though? Anna is depicted parsimoniously putting her savings into a piggy-bank, not handing it over to a cashier at the Sparkasse!

Still a charming statue though.
